The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya is the first state private university in the field of Science & Technology in the entire North East India—a University that has been awarded the accreditation ranking of “A Grade” in its first cycle of assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2021. Introduction
In pursuance of the National Action Plan of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, the NAAC proposes that every accredited institution establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of an institution’s system and work towards realizing the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the performance of institutions. The IQAC will make a significant and meaningful contribution in the post-accreditation phase of institutions. Institutional Quality Framework
USTM established its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in 2012 as per NAAC guidelines to plan, guide, and monitor all Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Enhancement (QE) activities.
Purpose & Mission
IQAC acts as the university’s central quality mechanism, ensuring academic excellence, strong governance, and continuous improvement aligned with global standards.
Capacity Building
It promotes quality across academic and administrative processes by training, counselling, and motivating teaching and non-teaching staff.
Research Promotion
IQAC encourages research activities, interdisciplinary collaboration, dissemination of research policies, and facilitates the implementation of MoUs.
Quality Processes & Monitoring
It designs and implements quality processes, trains internal monitors, reviews procedures periodically, and initiates corrective actions
Documentation & Reporting
IQAC maintains essential documentation, updates university information (including website content), and prepares annual and activity reports for the Chancellor’s Office.
Compassion-Driven Research
In its policy, IQAC explicitly promotes outreach and community-focused work: it strives to engage students and staff in “sensitive services to the deprived sections of the people” through research, extension, and community engagement.
Moreover, through its research incentive structure, the university fosters meaningful research that rewards not just academic achievement but also social impact, thereby embedding a culture of empathy and service in its scholarship.
